Covid19: a new need for home health services

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many changes in the last year and has demonstrated weaknesses in our healthcare systems, particularly in the realm of home healthcare. People with more fragile health are more likely to be severely affected by Covid-19 and therefore should limit their exposure to the virus as much as possible. In this regard, it is imperative to promote home healthcare in the context of the pandemic with hospitals becoming centers of contamination.

Generally speaking, the overall health care system could be improved if a larger portion of healthcare operations could be carried out from home. With this in mind, more home care could help relieve hospital overcrowding and reduce wait times in hospitals, allowing more patients to be treated and to be treated more quickly. Moreover, in addition to reducing the risk of exposure to the virus for individuals with fragile health, this could allow a better user-friendliness and a more pleasant experience for patients since they would be in the comfort of their own home and would avoid going to a hospital. However, in order to ensure that home healthcare would work in the same vision as hospital care, it is necessary to ensure that the management of operations is optimal and efficient. It is therefore necessary to improve the efficiency of home care processes by acquiring the appropriate technological tools.

In addition, knowing that hospital staff are already overloaded, advocating home care would help to balance workloads, contributing to a reduction of stress for hospital employees and better working conditions overall. Also, this would increase the quality of care given since the decongestion of hospitals would allow more time on average for a patient.

Obviously, a system of this kind involves many challenges related to scheduling, transport and logistics of care equipment as well as resource and appointment management. With this in mind, such a system must be supported by technological management and planning tools in order to ensure a certain standard of quality in the services and care provided at home, for example to facilitate appointment setting, take note of the services provided, etc. An easy-to-use interface tends to increase the willingness to use the application and by relying on accessible and easy-to-use technological tools, it would be possible to increase the rate of use of home healthcare services. Also, it would offer more control and traceability for the relatives of individuals with poor health or with disabilities.

Overall, the arrival of Covid19 has forced our society to rapidly evolve towards a world more oriented towards telecommunications and home services. This pandemic has made it possible to create an opening onto new horizons, in particular home healthcare services which seem to be a promising solution to solving the problem of overcapacity in our hospitals. Itis therefore possible to move towards this avenue by acquiring technological solutions that ensure quality care.
