Generational Cohesion in the Mobile Health World

The future of mobile health, for advancement, development, and implementation reasons, can easily be argued to be in the hands of the millennial generation.  Young, aspiring minds are consistently pushing for new challenges, new aspirations, and new opportunities in the health field.

With more and more students investing their careers within different spheres within the medical field, the future and potential for mobile health is bright.  As the responsibility of moving forward is tied to such valuable technology, comes the servicing of such tasks.

The baby-boom generation will be the major benefactor of such advancements.  Providing value and medical care results to this demographic will be the main focus for the youth of the day, establishing high potential for a cohesive relationship among both demographics.


The Millennial Generation       

Every year, millions of young people pour themselves ambitiously into the medical market.  As graduates, non-grads, or currently in school, today’s youth all want jobs that pay decent wages, but many want something more.

The youth of today are looking for more than just money in their pocket, in contrast to what older generations may think.  Ultimately, they desire a sense of purpose and belonging in a career where they can help others by contributing whole-heartedly within their field. The millennial generation entering into the core of the medical field today will bring with them their affirmations of technology to better structure and observe the patient experience.

Brought up within a high tech era, millennials will use their intense exposure to informatics and digitization to their benefit and restructure the way we see health today.  Moreover, the youth of today are taking steps into the job force with ambitious aspirations that could propel them to redefine medical care as we know it altogether.

The experience is becoming more and more of the core of the health care.  Servicing should not be a robotic process and the millennial generation are adding colour more than ever to what was once a black and white process.


The Baby-Boom Generation

In order to have a better outward reach into the horizon, mobile health needs to satisfy the patient needs of the ever aging population.  Yes, investing in youth is crucial.  However, with the baby-boom generation aging ever quicker, the time to act is now!  Patient engagement matters even more since baby-boomers are now the dominant group using medical services.

Ultimately, by keeping a clear and detailed track of a patient’s medicinal intake during the hours of the day and their distinct interactions with different professionals, this allows one to save a lot of time.  Overall, medical documentation has improved and has become present in many standardized and mobile formats to satisfy the ever-changing technological environment.

Today, health care practices must meet new industry standards that emphasize outcomes instead of services delivered.  Practices are on the hook for achieving better cost and clinical outcomes with initiatives such as “Meaningful Use”, “Patient-Centered Medical Homes” (PCMH), and “Accountable Care Organizations” (ACOs).

Focusing on patient engagement can improve efficiency, reduce out-migration and reduce overall costs of patient care.  Offering a mobile health solution that incorporates many qualities and characteristics in terms of functionalities is the most cost-savvy option.  Having an all-in-one solution offers many benefits.  Considering that mobile technology in the medical field is set to advance 30% in the next 5 year-period, better and smarter changes are on the horizon.

Tied to this, with almost a third of Canadians being a part of the baby-boom generation, this will be a major priority for the young demographic to use mobile health’s advantages in mobility, clarity, and authorized security of data to their advantage.  The medical world is moving away from inefficient documentation processes and taking big leaps towards full digitization.  Overall, the relationship between both generations will be critical in order to properly exemplify the major benefits of mobile health.
